flood update:
We Are Healthy and Safe and I Hope You Are Too
Hello to my beloved flower community both near and far.
I won't make this too long. Just wanted to let you know we are fine and our house is fine and we are safe and healthy. I hope you are too.
A note about the farm. We are all well and healthy and very grateful. It is hard to think long term about my business in this moment. I have lots of support from my national flower farming community and my business mentor with Mountain Biz Works. I WILL grow flowers again, but it won't be for awhile. Our farm is not even on a 100 year flood plain and our tiny creek, that actually went dry this summer, swelled and over flowed its banks all the way up to our house and all through our fields. Because of this, 2.5 of my garden plots, wooden planter boxes, and greenhouse were ruined. We have at least 6 inches of heavy sand, silt, gravel and sewage on these fields. The reality is, it can't be cleaned up quick. We will need an environmental assessment and will move forward with an appropriate environmental cleanup. I won't be doing Christmas Tulips like planned. With no clean water to irrigate with, I can't plant, and water them in well to grow them. I hope conditions improve and I can eventually do some Tulips later in February. We shall see.
So many have reached out wanting to help and volunteer, THANK YOU! We will eventually need help and we would so appreciate it, but the time is not now. Hug your loved ones and I will be in touch later.
We were impacted by Helene, but we will flower on!
XOXO,
Abigail
